About the role
We are seeking a bright and ambitious Hong Kong qualified lawyer with
litigation/ insurance experience to join our Hong Kong office with a
minimum qualification of 2-3PQE. There is no maximum qualification -
all experienced candidates will be considered.
This opportunity involves working directly for Patrick Perry, listed
as a leading individual by Legal 500 and Chambers, and known as a
specialist in insurance, commercial litigation, arbitration,
adjudication and the resolution of claims through ADR. In this role
you will assist the Partner and senior lawyers in handling complex
coverage issues across a range of business lines including
construction, litigation, insurance coverage disputes (professional
indemnity, D&O, W&I Insurance, financial lines and
construction / property insurance).
The team advises on the most complex and high-profile matters acting
on behalf of clients including the Big Four and mid-tier accountancy
firms, international surveying practices, global insurance brokers, a
number of pre-eminent architectural and engineering firms, and other
large corporate practices, as well as a broad range of market leading insurers.
You will ideally have a strong private practice background where you
have preferably had exposure to some or all of the types of matters
detailed above, gained from a reputable law firm.
Key responsibilities
Defend claims and provide coverage advice across various types of
insurance, from small losses to large and complex claims.
Handle a diversity of general commercial litigation, large scale
international arbitrations and disputes covering breaches of
commercial contracts, jurisdictional disputes, enforcement and recoveries.
Advise on insurance coverage of professional indemnity, financial
lines, construction insurance, and substantial Warranty and
Indemnity claims.
Advise on associated regulatory/compliance issues.
Advise on professional negligence claims.
Candidate Profile
You will be an established lawyer in Hong Kong who enjoys working as
part of a dynamic and collaborative team with the following core competencies:
Legally qualified in Hong Kong. Qualifications in other
jurisdictions such as England & Wales would be an asset.
Minimum 2- 3 years PQE.
Strong academic credentials, self-driven with excellent verbal and
written communications skills.
Fluency in English and preferably also Cantonese (written and
oral). Strong Mandarin advantageous.
A strong general insurance litigation background, ideally with
some solid professional indemnity or construction experience is preferred.
Experience in dispute resolution, commercial litigation and
arbitration with focus on insurance is preferred.
General insurance litigation, financial lines, professional
indemnity (especially with a focus on accountancy, solicitors, and
construction professional liability claims), and director and
officers (D&O) experience is preferred but not essential.
Strong time management skills and ability to manage competing
priorities effectively.
Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, as well as the
ability to work independently.
Commercial awareness and confidence in building a rapport with
clients to gain a better understanding of their business' needs and
with the assistance of the partner, actively developing these client relationships.
