We are currently looking for an Associate level lawyer with between
1-4 years' post qualification experience to join our Singapore Energy
Marine & Natural Resources ("EMNR") team with particular focus on
energy, commodity trading and shipping disputes across different
jurisdictions, international arbitration/commercial litigation and
sectoral non-contentious work.
This opportunity involves working with Partner
Leon Alexander consistently listed and ranked as a leading
individual in Shipping and Maritime Law across all legal directories.
Leon was most recently singled out by clients in the Energy category
of The Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2024 guide and is widely known for his
client centric, commercial and sensible approach. You will also be
working directly with Hannah
Chua, Legal Director who is well established and highly regarded
by clients for her extensive experience acting for and advising
clients in the energy and maritime industry, including leading
commodity trading firms, mining companies, multinational energy
corporations, shipowners and charterers.
The team are frequently called upon to advise and act on behalf of
global, multinational clients across complex, large scale, high value,
multi-party, multi-jurisdictional litigation meaning you will be
exposed to the best work whilst learning from and working alongside
industry experts. You will be involved in all aspects of matters,
contributing significantly to their outcome, whilst growing and
developing your own expertise. The nature of the team will further
provide the opportunity to participate in business development activity.
Our EMNR practice has many dual qualified and local language speaking
lawyers enabling the firm to work in an increasing number of
jurisdictions throughout the region. We pride ourselves on being able
to offer offshore and onshore expert legal advice particularly since
the establishment of the Singapore Joint Legal Venture with Clasis LLC
in 2013.
The successful candidate will be involved in the following work:
Assisting the Partner and other team members on a range of complex
and large-scale matters
Conducting legal research and analysis related to a broad spectrum
of energy, marine, trade and commodities matters
Advising commodities companies in relation to contracts for and
disputes arising out of the sale, transportation, storage,
blending/processing, payment, hedging and financing of commodities.
Advising ship owners, charterers and operators in relation to
contracts for and disputes arising out of the carriage of goods by sea
Being a key point of contact for, and liaising with local and
global clients
Participating in business development activities.
Appearing and representing clients in Singapore court and handling
arbitration proceedings.
Candidate Profile
You are an ambitious lawyer looking to join a dynamic and
collaborative team within a leading commercial law firm environment.
You also have:
Minimum 1-2 years' post-qualification experience in Singapore
acting for and advising clients
Suitable candidates will have strong academic results and be
qualified to practice in Singapore
Previous experience in shipping, trade & commodities or the
energy legal industry will be highly regarded
Exposure to, or experience working on cross-border disputes
Strong drafting skills and excellent attention to detail
Proven ability to work as part of a team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and networking ability.
