Private Client Associate

We are looking for a Private Client Associate to join our Private Client & Tax Group. The Group forms part of the firm's wider Private Capital Group initiative and provides a comprehensive service to a wide array of clients, including wealthy UK and international individuals and families, family offices, overseas trust companies, established businesses and start-ups, along with individuals that work in the technology, finance and media sectors, entertainment and sports personalities and their agents and property developers.

This represents an exciting opportunity for the right individual to become involved in all areas of the firm's Private Client & Tax practice. The Private Capital Group is a fast-growing part of the firm and has a strong reputation within the private client market. The role will be complex and wide-ranging, encompassing the following types of work:

  • residence and domicile advice, guidance on income tax and capital gains tax principles including the arising and remittance basis of taxation and reliefs including split year treatment, overseas' workday relief, loss relief, BADR, PPR relief and related personal tax issues;
  • advice on inheritance tax principles, application of reliefs, exemptions, double tax treaties and key planning exercises;
  • the creation and maintenance of wealth planning structures for UK and international clients, including advice on the legal and taxation rules surrounding onshore and offshore trusts, family investment companies, partnerships, private trust companies, private investment funds;
  • the implications for individuals and trustees of reporting and information exchange, transparency and anti-corruption initiatives;
  • the set-up, retention and/or unwinding of UK residential property holding structures including income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax and related corporate tax, ATED and SDLT issues;
  • employment tax and taxation of executive remuneration and equity incentivisation structures; and
  • other general tax and private client issues as and when they arise.

Candidate Profile

We are looking to recruit a 1-4 year PQE solicitor who is qualified in England & Wales with excellent academic credentials, high quality training and experience with a firm with a strong private client practice.

Candidates do not need to have experience already of all of the types of work outlined above but will need to be enthusiastic about the role and willing to provide support and assistance to the Partners and Senior Associates in all areas of Private Client & Tax work.

The successful candidate is likely to be:

  • CTA qualified or, if not, have the desire to undertake the CTA in the near future
  • Technically strong with very good commercial judgment
  • Able to think and act independently but know when to ask for help and take instruction
  • Welcomes direct exposure to clients
  • Enthusiastic, confident, sociable and self-motivated with common sense
  • Keen to get involved with business development for the wider Private Client & Tax Group
