Kirkland & Ellis LLP is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual for the role of Specialist in the Business Intake & Conflicts Department. This is an exciting opportunity to assist attorneys with their compliance duties in a fast-paced environment while contributing to the success of the Firm. This position offers the opportunity to assist in processing requests to ensure they meet Firm policies and business requirements. The role is critical to identifying potential risk, communicating potential resolution, and securing the necessary approvals as part of the new business process and ongoing obligations to Firm clients. The ideal individual will have a collaborative mindset, an acute attention to detail, work well under pressure, and understand the meaning of exceptional customer service. This position will require critical thinking, strong judgment and decision-making skills to be able to identify the potential issues with bringing on new business to the Firm. Training will be provided.

The Business Intake Specialist has these core responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Business Intake Supervisor and Risk Management leadership, the Specialist works closely with attorneys, the Office of General Counsel and members of the Business Intake & Conflicts Department around the globe to process requests associated with the set up and maintenance of ethical walls and identifying and processing requests to ensure client and Firm data is kept confidential.
  • Subject matter expert on ethical walls and screens utilizing Intapp's WallBuilder application.
  • An understanding of conflict of interest concepts, Firm business rules, relational databases and grammar rules is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Establish, maintain and audit ethical walls utilizing Intapp's WallBuilder application.
  • Review conflict analysis, retention letters and waivers to determine screening requirements.
  • Draft and circulate screening memos.
  • Monitor walls activity to ensure compliance and disable walls when no longer needed or appropriate.
  • Respond to inquiries from the Office of the General Counsel, Risk Management leadership and attorneys with accurate information in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work directly with the Office of the General Counsel to establish screening policies and procedures.
  • Work with attorneys and IT to investigate and resolve timekeeper file or document access issues.
  • Develop a broad subject matter expertise regarding screening requirements and the Firm's policies regarding such requirements.
  • Contribute to process, procedure, and technology improvements in order to reduce risk and improve efficiency.
  • Work with Business Intake and Conflicts teams to address time sensitive issues and ad hoc ethical wall related questions.
  • Assist department leadership as needed.
  • Recognize when additional hours are needed to meet department goals. Work outside of working hours as needed.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have a proven amount of high-level experience, including conflicts searching. Excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service orientation, and the ability to analyze complex and often conflicting information are also required. The Business Intake Specialist should also possess an acute attention to detail, as well as the ability to identify and analyze problems and find solutions. A master's degree and knowledge of the legal industry and law firms are preferred. A bachelor's degree is required.
