Job Title Paralegal - Real Estate Finance (6 Month FTC)

The Department

Our specialist team of real estate finance lawyers advises on how to structure financing, either to provide maximum security for lenders, or maximum certainty for borrowers. We work with major banks and other leading property lenders, on a senior and mezzanine basis, as well as advising some of the industry's highest profile property investment and development borrowers.

We are here to facilitate deals through the introduction of people, property and finance, and find practical commercial solutions to issues along the way. We are helped by our industry-wide experience of property finance: commercial, residential, leisure and healthcare.

Financial institutions, private equity funds, hedge funds, institutional funds, developers and investors rely on our advice across all aspects of transactions including:

  • Bilateral, syndicated, club, structured, senior and mezzanine finance
  • Bridging finance
  • Investment and development financings
  • Debt restructuring and re-financings
  • Security enforcements and receiverships

Our banking and finance team is supported by strong corporate, real estate, tax and regulatory offerings.

Duties and Responsibilities

The main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Preparation and management of conditions, precedent checking, during deals to completion.
  • Bibling promptly after deal close.
  • Registering security at Companies House promptly.
  • Preparation of legal documents such as board resolutions and director's certificates. Proofreading and updating documents, using initiative to flag queries.
  • Liaising with clients in a timely, professional and courteous manner.
  • File opening and closing, retainer letters and conflict checks.
  • Typing and amending notes, letters, presentations and other documents as required, using Microsoft Office, Laser forms and the DMS.
  • Managing virtual data sites, including the initial set up and uploading of documents for internal sites and monitoring and keeping the team informed of updates to external data sites.
  • Managing and checking for fund transfers, completing funds requests, preparing funds flow and reconciling ledgers.
  • Preparing and sending e-mails to include attaching documents, printing and filing of incoming emails, attachments and confirmations.
  • Photocopying and filing.
  • To work under pressure to meet deadlines with a flexible attitude during urgent transactions.
  • To maintain confidentiality in respect of those matters which are commercially sensitive or secret and only share them with colleagues and others on a need to know basis who are themselves bound by an obligation of confidentiality.
  • Providing support as required by the fee-earners and working with other PAs and other members of the Department.

Skills/Experience

  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan and manage a consistently busy workload under own steam with minimal direct supervision.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise requests (from a variety of sources) and to respond quickly and positively to changes in priorities.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Effective spoken and written communication skills, and able to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
  • Ability to balance longer-term project work whilst also maintaining a busy daily workload.
  • Ability to successfully work independently and as part of a team.
  • Personable and confident, able to build relationships with partners/ key stakeholders.
  • Resilient and calm under pressure.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach in order to collaborate with the team to meet the needs of the business.
  • Pro-active, takes initiative and is able to move work forward.
  • Proficiency in MS Packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer. Experience with Document Management Systems is an advantage.
  • Previous relevant experience or a genuine interest in this area of law is desirable.
