The Department

The People Team plays a key role in enabling the firm to attract, develop and retain great people, and giving them the tools and support needed to develop and fulfil their potential, and that of the firm. The team is welcoming, inclusive, driven by providing a 'high touch' level of service, and collaborative in terms of how we work. The team consists of c.50 people in both business-facing, generalist roles (Advisory) alongside specialist teams (Data & Systems; Reward; Diversity, Inclusion & Wellbeing; Employment, Policy & Engagement; Talent Acquisition, as well as our Academy, which consists of Academy Learning and Early Careers).

This role will be within our Academy Learning team with the opportunity to work alongside the wider business. The Mishcon Academy, established in 2013, delivers university quality education across a wide range of areas for everyone at Mishcon.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our market-leading Academy team on a 12-month fixed term contract. The role would support the design, development and delivery of our fee earner skills framework and curriculum.

Given the nature of our Academy offering at Mishcon, we are looking for candidates who are self-starting, able to build strong and lasting relationships, are confident presenters, have an interest in coaching and who are flexible in their approach.

Working in collaboration with key stakeholders across the team and wider firm, successful candidates will:

  • Deliver on the L&D strategy across all fee earning departments.
  • Manage the development of a new skills matrix to support lawyers at every stage of their career, from trainee to partner.
  • Conduct learning needs analyses to identify skills gaps.
  • Design innovative and engaging learning aligned to the skills matrix.
  • Deliver online and in-person learning across a variety of non-legal and possibly legal areas. This will be aligned to the skills matrix.
  • Develop relationships with existing providers and identify and seek out new suppliers to support the framework delivery.
  • Support and shape future process in relation to the fee earner professional qualifications.
  • Support, reimagine and deliver on the staff induction process.
  • Management and coordination of the FE L&D budget.
  • Responsibility for the management and development of team Advisors.
  • Coordinate with the wider People teams to support FE departmental projects.
  • Act as a strategic business partner supporting specialist functions.
  • Undertake coaching conversations and relationships with fee earners.

Skills/Experience

  • Experience working in an L&D Manager role ideally within a law firm or professional services firm.
  • Qualified lawyer is desirable.
  • Experience managing and developing other L&D professionals.
  • Experience identifying learning needs.
  • Strong instructional design skills.
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills, in person and virtual.
  • Personable and confident, able to build relationships with stakeholders across the business.
  • Resilient and calm under pressure.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach.
  • Pro active and takes initiative.
  • Experience of LMS systems and online learning is desirable but not essential.
  • Qualified coach is desirable but not essential.
