Summary of the role

As a Business Development Executive at Mishcon de Reya, you will be part of a team primarily providing support to our Corporate, Innovation and Private teams as we expand our Oxford presence. The role will report into the Heads of Business Development in Innovation / Corporate and Private. The ideal candidate will be able to support the firm and Oxford team as it develops its connectivity to the innovation and private wealth ecosystems in Oxford, including :

  • Its Corporate and Innovation offering across the innovation community: from IP and data rich established corporates headquartered in Oxford, to emerging and scaling companies through their growth and eventual exit, to the TTO transfer functions of Oxford's universities and research institutes.
  • Its Private offering: developing an understanding of the dynamics and politics of families, family businesses and personal relationships, and spot opportunities of target clients between the practice areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing the execution of projects from start to finish. Comfortable assisting with and when required, leading meetings with Fee Earners. This role will be a critical member of the team, working both within the fee earning departments, as well as regularly collaborating with teams across the wider Business Development Department.
  • Lead the preparation of directory and award submissions for the departments with the appropriate Fee Earners. Take responsibility for delivering great content on time.
  • Work with the Partners and Fee Earners in the production of credential statements, pitch documents and PowerPoint presentations, marketing material (including brochures and client briefings) and other client communications. This role will be responsible for managing design and content, through to producing final documentation for approval.
  • Manage event planning. This role will be responsible for creating the invitation, finalising the invitation list, to on-the-ground support at the event, and all follow-up communications.
  • Assist in coordinating Partner and Fee Earner attendance and support material for externally organised conferences and exhibitions.
  • Working regularly with Hubspot and InterAction - ensuring that data remains as up-to-date as possible and ensuring the systems are used effectively to support a range of BD-related events and initiatives.
  • Preparation of documentation for business development meetings including agendas, emails, business development schedules, and other documents.
  • Supporting the BD team in implementing business development activities including planning, organisation, and project management of a wide range of client-focused events and digital sessions and effective follow-up activity. To include liaising with other service functions to arrange any support for events.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the internet and intranet to ensure business development content for your departments is appropriate and up to date.

Contributing to BD

  • Work collaboratively with all members of the BD team. Bring a "can do" and positive attitude to the role.
  • Demonstrate an agile approach to work, flexing your style to be able to provide support on a range of activities to the members of the team as and when needed.
  • Share best practices and regional market intelligence with the team.
  • Utilise social media and other digital platforms to enhance visibility and engagement with target audiences.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends for new business opportunities [within the relevant sectors and focus areas].
  • Enhance the reputation of the BD team within the firm for its professionalism and for the strategic and distinctive value it provides.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a year's experience of working in a Business Development function in the legal, private client, or professional services field.

In addition to this, candidates must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Good desktop publishing skills, particularly PowerPoint and Word, and shows strong willingness to develop tech skills.
  • Excellent written skills, able to produce good quality first drafts.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to multitask and manage different workstreams and to use initiative wherever possible.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work to deadlines and stay calm under pressure.
  • Demonstrates a positive can-do attitude and shows initiative to support the team.
  • Proactive and self-sufficient with the ability to take ownership and manage certain tasks with limited guidance.
  • Personable and confident, able to build relationships with Partners/ key stakeholders.
  • A flexible and can-do approach, willing to provide varied support across various different departments when required.
  • A team player who is collaborative and self-motivated.
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
