Job Title
Associate (NQ-3 PQE) - Contentious Regulatory & Enforcement (no agencies)
Location
London
Description
The Team
The CR&E team has a breadth of experience of dealing with
regulators across many different areas and industries, predominantly
in the business world.
The team is most well-known for having defended actions against the
financial services regulators (currently the FCA and the PRA). Its
reputation has been built on acting for individuals, and its mix of
work is heavily weighted towards acting for them, although it has had
significant experience acting also for firms, which it is looking to
build on. It has acted in some of the biggest and most well-known
enforcement cases to have emerged in recent years, and it and its
members have been consistently ranked in the legal directories over
many years.
As well as defending in financial services enforcement cases, the
CR&E team is often involved prior to that, trying to keep clients
out of enforcement. That work is often done in conjunction with our
market leading Employment practice.
In addition to specialising in financial services cases, the team has
very good experience of defending enforcement actions brought by
regulators in other areas. For example, it has worked extensively on:
cases against the Gambling Commission, various accountancy regulators,
the Phone-paid Services Authority, the SRA, the Takeover Panel and in
enforcement proceedings out of the jurisdiction.
Becoming the leading regulatory practice in the UK is part of
Mishcon's 10 year Vision. The CR&E team is an integral part of
that vision.
Duties and Responsibilities
The role will involve advising clients, such as, directors, other
individuals, as well as corporates, in relation to current or
potential investigations brought by bodies such as the FCA, PRA and
other regulatory organisations. There may also be opportunities to be
involved in White Collar Crime and Investigations work.
Skills/Attributes
Candidates will be confident in managing client relationships,
workloads and priorities. We are looking for proactive applicants who
are ambitious and have lots of drive and enthusiasm. Candidates should
be commercial, creative legal thinkers, who are able to approach
matters both from a legal as well as a commercial perspective, as well
as having good empathetic skills for dealing with individual clients
often in difficult circumstances. Sound commercial acumen is therefore
a necessity, as well as emotional intelligence and the ability to
'think on your feet'. Experience in contentious regulatory matters is
an advantage for those at the lower end of the PQE range, and a
necessity for those at the upper end. We would also consider a
candidate looking to make a move from non-contentious financial
services to contentious regulatory, although more likely for those at
the lower end of the PQE range.
Ideally 0-3 years PQE, gained at a recognised practice.
Strong academic record.
Excellent attention to detail.
Excellent organisational skills.
Ability to effectively manage own workload.
Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Personable and confident, able to build relationships with
partners/ key stakeholders.
Take a keen interest in undertaking business development
activities both internally and externally.
Resilient and calm under pressure.
Adaptable and flexible approach.
Pro-active and takes initiative.
Please note that this job
profile is not an exhaustive list of duties but merely an outline
of the key components of the role. You may be required by your
line manager to take on additional responsibilities when requested.
