The Department

The Knowledge Services department consists of a research team and a knowledge solutions team and, together with the Firm's 24 Knowledge Lawyers (KLs), is responsible, for driving knowledge strategy across the Firm. The role is in the Knowledge Solutions team which is currently a team of four led by our Knowledge Solutions Senior Manager and provides knowledge management and legal technology services to the lawyers. As well as working with the KLs, the team works with the Firm's Risk and Compliance, Technology and other operational teams.

The Role

The main purpose of this role is to assist with the provision of knowledge management and legal tech services to the Firm and to deliver against our knowledge initiatives. It would suit a tech savvy candidate with a law degree or legal professional exam. This is an exciting role in which you would develop your ability with legal technology solutions in addition to legal and knowledge management skills, a highly prized skill set in an industry being transformed by legal technology. You would work on the organisation and updating of knowledge resources across the Firm, including on the Firm's intranet (Mishcon Knowledge), document automation and KM systems. As a member of the Knowledge Solutions team, you would also work particularly closely with our Knowledge Lawyers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Knowledge Management
    • Maintain intranet pages and liaise with the relevant content managers over intranet content.
    • Create new pages for content managers, maintain navigational links and security settings, and delete old pages.
    • Organise and tag content made available through the intranet, particularly the Firm's precedents, checklists and other legal resources used by the lawyers.
    • Help maintain, review and work with the Firm's taxonomies of work types, legal topic and document types.
    • Assist KLs with maintaining, classifying and redacting know-how documents.
    • Help with the Firm's house style initiatives.
  • Legal Tech
    • Automate legal precedents and internal non-legal documents using ContractExpress software.
    • Assist precedent owners with the regular maintenance of automated documents.
    • Troubleshoot ContractExpress and document automation problems for KLs and users.
    • Help test automations, once coded.
    • Assist with administration and governance across our portfolio of systems, including but not limited to Cloud Forms, DocuSign, Thirdfort, and Bundledocs.
    • Help organise, participate in and take feedback on pilots of other legal technology.
  • General
    • Capture webpages and social media using PageVault.
    • Work with lawyers to obtain feedback on the provision of the solutions provided by the team.
    • Maintain and create supporting documentation for our portfolio of systems and procedures.
    • Assist with KM and legal tech related projects.
    • Work closely with Tech Academy on eLearning and training across our portfolio of systems.

Skills/Experience

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Legal qualifications e.g. a law degree or legal professional exams.
  • Experience of knowledge management in a law firm or KM systems/legal tech would be useful.
  • A keen interest in technology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven organisational skills - ability to work accurately to tight deadlines, and to prioritise between conflicting demands.
  • Ability to discuss technical concepts with KLs and other (fee-earning) lawyers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Resilient and calm under pressure.
  • Proactive and takes initiative.
