The Department

Working with clients who simultaneously drive and experience this ecosystem enables us to provide informed strategic advice and market leading solutions, including in such areas as cyber risk, ESG and shareholder activism.

Corporate Innovation and Venture Capital Team

We work with innovative companies, challengers and disrupters, particularly in the technology, life sciences and high-growth industries, to navigate the problems and opportunities they encounter throughout their business lifecycle.

The Corporate Innovation & Venture Capital (CIVC) team work on a variety of corporate transactions involving companies at all stages of their business lifecycle. We guide them through venture capital fundraisings, merger and acquisitions, restructuring, insolvency, venture debt and exits. We also regularly advise investors (including venture capital funds) on their own investment activity as well as working with them to support their portfolio companies.

The Cambridge Office

In Cambridge we support the businesses that drive theinnovationeconomy, and the entrepreneurs and private wealth that underpin them. Our Cambridge legal team offers services tailored to the city's vibrant ecosystem. We provide expertise in areas such as emerging companies, private clients, and commercial disputes, alongside specialised support in family, wills and tax. Our practice extends to resolving IP and brand disputes, corporate governance, real estate management and employment law. By bringing these services together, we ensure that businesses and individuals in Cambridge's innovation hub receive wise legal counsel to maintain their competitive advantage and navigate international markets effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

The role will involve advising on a wide range of corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, venture capital investment, corporate re-organisations and debt financing arrangements.

The successful candidate will be committed to developing their career within corporate law with a particular focus on the Cambridge technology and venture capital ecosystem as well as other entrepreneurial businesses, and will be able to demonstrate their passion for and experience in this area of law.

Although the role will be based in Cambridge, the successful candidate will work with the wider team (in London and Oxford) often on nationally and internationally significant matters.

Skills/Experience

  • A solid grounding in corporate transactional work, with an interest in venture capital and M&A.
  • 0-3 PQE gained within a leading corporate practice at a recognised law firm.
  • Excellent team player.

  • Ability to effectively manage own workload.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, both internally and with clients.
