This is an exciting role that
focusses on the delivery of complex UK and international tax and
legal advice to internationally mobile individuals, their companies,
trustees, and family offices. Prior corporate tax experience is
preferred - strong UK tax technical skills is a requirement. The
role involves collaborative working with other groups and
departments within the Firm and its international offices.
The Department
The Private Wealth & Tax group works
with a diverse range of institutions, companies and high net-worth
individuals managing and protecting their assets in the most
tax-efficient manner.
Many of the individuals we advise
regularly are international, with personal wealth and business
interests in numerous jurisdictions and sectors. They include
professional fiduciaries and private trustees, both in the UK and
all major international financial centres. They are often not
resident in the UK, and many have never been resident or domiciled
here. The tax issues they face are complex and varied. Nevertheless,
the focus for all of our clients remains the same: legitimate tax
mitigation, preservation of their wealth for the benefit of their
families and philanthropic endeavours.
Our clients want to comply with their UK
and international tax reporting and payment obligations while
maximising any available tax reliefs. They also want to preserve
their privacy, protect their assets, realise value and safeguard
their reputation and family values. We work with them to navigate
and balance these potentially conflicting objectives, providing
bespoke and tailored solutions for each specific situation.
We do this against a backdrop of a dynamic
and increasingly regulated world. Based in London, Hong Kong and
Singapore, including strong links in the Kingdon of Saudi Arabia,
with lawyers qualified in multiple countries and with significant
experience advising across Europe, the Middle East, the US and Asia
- we are well placed to support our clients with any tax issues. We
advise on the formation, administration, taxation and governance of
their structures, coordinating and working closely with local and
international professional advisers, bankers and family offices.
Duties and Responsibilities
The role will involve advising across the
following areas: UK and international tax in the context of
individuals as well as corporates; trusts; asset protection
structuring; and lifetime planning for high-net and ultra-high net
worth individuals, families and their trustees.
Skills/Experience
The ideal candidate will have 3-7 years PQE
with experience in a corporate tax department in a highly ranked
English or International Law Firm with a desire to learn more about
private wealth and personal tax, trusts and international and
domestic wealth planning.
Experience gained in transaction support at
any leading tax practice at a reputable law firm is preferred.
Experience gained or desire to be engaged in
advisory mandates will be an advantage.
Good technical knowledge in tax with
competent drafting skills.
Being a Chartered Tax Advisor (a CTA) or
Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) is
desirable. If not, training to be qualified as such can be made available.
Proactive and takes initiative.
Strong organisational and prioritising
skills, in order to meet the demands of challenging and commercial
internal and external clients, as well as dealing with competing priorities.
High standards of care and service in a
professional manner.
The ability to build good relationships with
clients, partners, fee earners and business operations.
Excellent written and verbal communication
skills in order to meet the drafting and presentation aspects of the role.
Excellent attention to detail.
Resilient and calm under pressure.
The ability to work independently and as
part of a team.
Adaptable, flexible with a common-sense approach.
Takes responsibility for and attends to self-developments.
Interest in undertaking business development
activities both internally and externally.
Please note that this job
profile is not an exhaustive list of duties but merely an outline
of the key components of the role. You may be required by your
line manager to take on additional responsibilities when requested.
