The Department
Risk and Compliance work in collaboration with the business to ensure
best practice across the Firm, effectively managing all aspects of the
regulation surrounding the efficient running of the Firm. We are
looking for someone with high attention to detail who prides
themselves on providing an excellent service.
The role will involve working with key internal stakeholders in a
fast-paced environment, so managing your time and the expectations of
others is paramount. You will be joining a hardworking and fun team,
who work together to provide a high level of service to the Firm and
its clients.
This role will predominately support the Conflicts team as well as
the General Counsel, Partner & COLP and the Senior Risk &
Compliance Managers more generally.
Duties and Responsibilities
The role will involve acting as the first point of call for conflicts
of interest and anti-money laundering enquiries for new clients and
matters. This will involve undertaking research and analysis, clearing
where appropriate and escalating where complex. There will also be the
opportunity to guide junior members of the team with their work and
act as a role model in supporting them in their development.
Conflicts
Researching, analysing and conducting conflict checks for all new
and existing clients and client matters across the Firm.
Escalate complex conflicts issues to the Risk and Compliance
Manager for resolution.
Ensure that all conflicts are managed in a timely and efficient manner.
Act as a point of escalation for junior members of the team
offering training support and guidance.
Assess/review conflict related queries in respect of previous
clearances from a quality and control perspective.
Provide proactive feedback to managers and senior managers in
respect of process improvements and development of team.
Point of contact for other teams and departments for conflict
related queries.
Administration
Ensure that all records, both paper and electronic, are filed and
maintained to a high standard.
Assisting in opening and maintaining client/matter files.
Provide general administrative support to the team.
Assist the management team with the delegation of tasks and responsibilities.
Assist the management team in providing feedback on performance
against team targets and KPI's
Liaising with fee earners and staff in a timely, professional and
courteous manner.
Regularly, frequently and accurately maintaining and update
correspondence and other filing.
Maintaining confidentiality in respect of those matters which are
commercially sensitive or secret and only share them with colleagues
and others on a need to know basis who are themselves bound by an
obligation of confidentiality.
Liaising with other departments where required.
General
To work to tight deadlines with a flexible attitude to working
overtime on the few occasions when an urgent matter may require it.
To maintain strict confidentiality in respect of those matters
which are commercially sensitive or secret and only share them with
colleagues and others on a need to know basis (who are themselves
bound by an obligation of confidentiality).
To be a positive role model to the R&C junior team members and
help support them through induction and business change.
Skills/Experience
At least 3 years' experience of handling and completing conflict
searches and ideally AML enquiries too, in a legal environment.
Educated to at least degree level, preferably with either the GDL
and/or LPC.
A genuine desire in developing a career in risk and compliance.
Ability to identify the client due diligent requirements of
corporate and individual clients.
A good understanding of the SRA Standards and Regulations, in
particular Rule 6 (Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality).
Willingness and appetite to learn and develop their knowledge of
other areas of risk and compliance.
A sound, robust knowledge in researching, analysing and providing
tailored solutions to conflicts of interest.
Dynamic and driven with an ability to work independently with
initiative, discretion and confidentiality.
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
Ability to effectively manage own workload working independently
and as part of a team.
Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
Personable and confident, able to build relationships with
partners/ key stakeholders.
