We are looking for a skilled and
experienced Bookkeeper/Accounts Manager to maintain our financial
records, manage the billing, payments and payroll processes of
Morgan Sports Law and DotX Talent companies and support the finance
team and Practice Manager.
This is a busy and varied role
that requires a candidate to be able to work autonomously with
confidential information, have exceptional attention to detail, be
able to maintain motivation and work calmly under pressure and
demonstrate confident communication skills. Our ideal candidate
either holds a degree or is part AAT (or similar) qualified, has
extensive prior bookkeeping experience, is proficient with using
accounting software, has knowledge of VAT and foreign currency
transactions, enjoys owning their own remit and is highly procedural
in their thinking.
Responsibilities
As part of the small Finance team
of 3, you will be solely responsible for a broad legal cashiering
and accounting remit including:
Record day to day financial
transactions for client and office accounts, across multiple
currencies, and prepare daily bank reconciliations
Maintaining the integrity of the
accounting system, ensuring transactions are recorded correctly
and accurate ledgers are maintained at all times.
Bring the books to the trial
balancestage, including completing the month-end close process
and posting manual journals.
Manage the billing process,
including liaising with fee earners to produce accurate and timely
bills, applying the correct VAT treatment, including for
disbursements, and ensuring foreign currency bills are correctly presented.
Manage the payments process;
ensuring supplier invoices, credit card transactions and direct
debits payments are paid promptly, are within the approval policy
and are recorded correctly, including VAT.
Manage the payroll process,
including liaising with HR and the payroll system providers,
ensuring salary and tax payments are made accurately and on time.
Manage the VAT process, including submitting VAT returns,
producing supporting files and making payments to tax authorities.
Manage the credit control
process, including liaising with clients to arrange bank transfers
and credit card payments, sending payment reminders and preparing
interest calculations.
Manage the bank accounts,
ensuring all accounts operate smoothly, including acting as the
main banking contact and providing information/reports where required.
Assist the external accountants
with the year-end SRA audit and statutory accounts processes.
Assisting with ad hoc queries
from management and fee earners, including running reports from
the accounting systems, preparing Excel spreadsheets and
completing finance-related paperwork.
Monitoring the accounts
mailboxes and ensuring external queries are appropriately dealt with.
Manage the various finance
systems, including the payroll portal, expense system, and credit
card payment platform.
Maintain appropriate records of
supporting files and ensure filing is completed promptly
Engaging with colleagues on
possible compliance issues
Ensuring compliance with SRA
Account rules at all times, including managing client monies on account
Working closely with the Finance
Manager and Finance Graduate, and assisting with team projects and
other ad hoc work (e.g., in the past this has included setting up
US Paychex accounts, Swiss VAT or Xero accounts).
Requirements
Good standard of academic achievement
Be working towards or have
completed bookkeeping qualifications e.g., level 3 AAT.
Proven bookkeeping / accounts
management experience for at least 3+ years.
Excellent organisational abilities
High degree of accuracy and
attention to detail
Able to manage multiple deadlines
Proven ability to calculate,
post and manage accounting figures and financial records
Accurate data entry skills along
with a knack for numbers
Hands-on experience with
spreadsheets and proprietary software
Proficiency in English and in MS
Office, particularly MS Excel
Customer service orientation and
negotiation skills
Knowledge of SRA accounting
rules beneficial but not essential
Experience using a billing
system (experience of Tikit's P4W and Xero an advantage but not essential)
International cashiering
exposure a plus
Be able to work autonomously
with minimal supervision

hybrid of remote working and working 1 day per week from our Oxted,
Surrey office (a higher level of in-office presence may be required
