Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP
is seeking to fill the new role of HR & Talent Senior Manager in
the Calgary office. This is a leadership role working in
collaboration with local and national teams, reporting to an HR
Director and working closely with the Calgary office Managing
Partner. The incumbent's focus will be to provide HR support to both
the practice and business services groups, providing guidance to the
local Calgary team and being an escalation point as needed.
In this exciting new role, you will be focusing on the
following:
Act as a strategic HR business
partner to support business services as well as the practice groups.
Subject matter expert for HR
matters and escalation point for local team.
Manage a team of employees and
support activities and processes including recruitment, onboarding
and orientation, payroll, performance management, development,
coaching, salary reviews, leaves, and departures.
Oversee management of legal support employees, consisting of team
coordinators, legal assistants, paralegals, resource team members
and evening/weekend assistants.
Work closely with the Calgary office managing partner and practice
group leaders to build trusted relationships within the practice
while managing headcount, overtime, workflow, ongoing needs and
special projects within the groups.
Offer strategic advice in respect of and help oversee the
development initiatives for the legal support teams, including
training, student co-op programs, coaching, performance improvement,
conflict management and engagement.
Help oversee and manage daily HR operations and program
administration, including ensuring efficient processes, updated
files and records are organized and documented.
Participate in HR budget process with director to determine
suitable programming needs.
Manage and oversee the approvals for department costs such as Firm
program reimbursements, team expenses, vendor fees, cheque
requisitions and invoices, and ensure budget is appropriately managed.
Play an important role in supporting key HR initiatives, acting as
a contact for questions, providing interpretation on policies,
overseeing leaves in conjunction with specialist and benefit teams,
and handling complex HR issues.
Stay current with market trends and best practices, with
well-developed networks in the industry.
Oversee the planning of various employee wellness and social
activities, employee appreciation events, social impact fundraising,
and lunch and learn offerings.
Deliver best-in-class people-centric support while fostering an
open and collegial culture.
Participate in special projects and national initiatives as needed
What you bring to the role:
Post-secondary education in business administration or human
resources management; CPHR, CHRL designation or equivalent is
strongly preferred.
A minimum of 10+ years of experience managing teams, preferably
including experience working in a large law firm or in a similar
position within a professional services environment.
Demonstrated knowledge in a broad range of HR aspects with a
continuous improvement mindset.
Current knowledge of applicable federal and provincial laws and
regulations and stays informed of HR best practices within the industry.
Highly effective project management skills with the ability to
think critically and meet multiple deadlines.
Excellent technical skills and ability to work with agility in an
electronic environment.
Workday experience would be ideal
Mature with superior judgment and discretion and ability to handle
sensitive situations with cultural acumen.
Effective communicator with a collaborative nature who can build
consensus across a broad range of stakeholders.
Self-motivated and results oriented professional who thrives in an
ever-changing environment with proven ability to act as a change agent.
