Our Employment & Labour practice group is recognised as one of the leading Employment and Safety teams in Australia and demand on our services has created an opportunity for an Associate to join the Melbourne team, working with Partners Melinda Bell and Nicki Milionis . This is an opportunity to get involved in some very interesting litigious and non-litigious employment and WHS matters, working across the public and private sectors. The key responsibilities and requirements for this role are as follows;

Responsibilities

  • Advise on WHS and employment legal compliance
  • Advise and represent employers in defence of WHS prosecutions and in relation to internal and external review of enforcement notices
  • Advise and represent employers in relation to exercise of powers during regulatory investigations
  • Advise and represent employers in unfair dismissal, discrimination and general protections claims
  • Advise on industrial relations matters including right of entry, disputes, enterprise bargaining and industrial action
  • Advise and act in post-employment confidentiality and restraint of trade disputes
  • Advise on employee disciplinary and performance issues and management of ill and injured workers
  • Advise on management of risks to psychosocial health, workplace bullying, discrimination and sexual harassment matters, including undertaking investigations
  • Advise on organisational restructures, commercial transactions and transfer of business issues
  • Work with national and global teams on cross-border matters and project delivery
  • Conduct business development and marketing initiatives, including the preparation and delivery of client training, external seminars and tender documents

Requirements

  • 1-4 years PQE working within a well-recognised and reputable employment law practice
  • Experience working across contentious and non-contentious employment matters
  • Experience working in or a desire to also be involved in WHS matters
  • Confidence to deal directly with clients and work collaboratively across the NRFA network
  • Excellent written, drafting and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management & organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities.
