Remote work schedule - This position can be filled near any of our offices across Canada

We are looking for a lawyer to join the Compliance team. This is a remote position, based out of any of our Canadian offices, with attendance required in office approximately once a week (subject to ongoing review).

This position oversees the firm's compliance with applicable rules of professional conduct, regulatory obligations, and legal orders. Members of the team assist with identifying and resolving potential conflicts of interest and risk issues as part of the new business intake process, having regard to applicable rules of professional responsibility and the firm's global policies.

You will be focusing on:

  • Conduct and/or review domestic search requests that require escalation, particularly in litigious matters to check conflicts of interest for new clients and matters, utilizing internal and external databases to assist with analysis
  • Review and analyze international conflict search requests, particularly in litigious matters, liaising with the Compliance teams in EMEA, Australia, South Africa and the United States
  • Communicate with fee-earners throughout the compliance checking process, building consensus to resolve conflicts and advise of results
  • Provide guidance and counsel to fee earners on compliance and conflicts issues
  • Prepare waiver/consent language, and assist with drafting engagement letters for partner review and submission to clients
  • Draft ethical screens and assist with information barrier management
  • Collaborate with a team of analysts to ensure consistent workflow and timely production of requests
  • Provide guidance and counsel to Compliance team members on compliance and conflicts issues, and identify and provide training for team members and internal clients on compliance and conflicts of interest
  • Monitor the development of compliance obligations worldwide

What you bring to the role:

  • Qualified Canadian lawyer
  • 2 years of experience of working as a fee-earner or in the regulatory area in a similar international legal practice
  • Excellent commercial judgment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with experience of operating in a multi-cultural environment
  • Sufficient influencing skills to work successfully and confidently at all levels, including senior management and partners
  • Sufficiently confident to exercise risk-based judgment calls daily
  • Knowledge of Intapp conflict checking and ethical wall software is plus, but not required
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

Vancouver Salary: $102,564 - $166,667. Salary will be discussed and negotiated during interview and will be based on experience.
