The Capital Markets and International Securities team at Norton Rose Fulbright enjoys a leading reputation and is looking for two mid-level associates to join the DCM team.

The team advises sovereign, quasi-sovereign and corporate issuers, investment banks, dealers, and trustees on the entire spectrum of cross-border debt capital markets transactions (including Shariah-compliant structures) in a broad range of transactions under English, New York and Canadian law, including high-yield, investment grade and sovereign debt (in both public and private transactions and in both programme and stand-alone form), exchangeable and convertible bonds, commercial paper programmes, exchange offers, tender offer and consent solicitations, as well as debt restructurings. The team's experience extends to debt issues under Canada's Multijurisdictional Disclosure System (adopted by the US SEC and Canadian securities regulatory authorities) and debt offerings registered with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.

The team has a reputation for excellent client service, breadth and versatility and high competence. Its clients are across Europe, Asia and Africa and almost all of the transactions it advises on are cross-border.

There are eight partners in BT6, three of which specialise in debt capital markets. They are Peter Young (who heads the team), Peter Noble and Nikolai Mikhailov. There are also two DCM Counsels, Jacqui Heng and Vishal Mawkin. The team is very friendly and inclusive, with high levels of collaboration and collegiality. Its fee-earners are approachable, enthusiastic and hard-working.

Skills and Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Pre-existing experience in DCM
  • A strong academic record
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to conduct thorough and timely research
  • A willingness to travel to emerging market jurisdictions and work on a wide variety of transactions
  • A "can do" attitude, with a willingness to learn and accept new challenges
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • A positive sense of direction and a desire to work on transactions
  • Ability to think laterally and good understanding of what partners and clients require.
