We are currently looking for a Commercial Manager to join our finance team, based in either Perth, Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. This is a newly created role that will report to the Head of Commercial Management and Pricing.

As a Commercial Manager you will provide financial guidance and leadership to Legal Practice Teams, with a view to profitability improvement, and enhancing the effectiveness of the legal practice team's operations. The role will support a number of Team Leaders in the management and coordination of their legal team's financial matters including budgeting, forecasting, reporting and administration. Broadly your role will involve:

  • Providing support to the Practice Teams and partners in relation to the pricing methodologies to be adopted for all regional (and global where appropriate) firm tenders, panel arrangements, competitive bids and secondments.
  • Providing financial insights into the monthly management accounts for Practice Teams.
  • Preparing written commentary for distribution to the Practice Teams regarding monthly performances.
  • Improving the financial hygiene of the Practice Teams via WIP management
  • Educating partners to improve client/matter profitability including assisting partners to achieve discount and write-off targets
  • Significant input into the annual budget for Practice Teams - including detailed review of headcount, charge out rates, utilisation levels and expenses.
  • Preparing revenue forecasts for Practice Teams throughout the financial year.
  • Checking, monitoring and approving all discretionary budget expenses and regularly review expense allocations
  • Approving Intapp flow forms relating to debt write offs, matter related GST free approval requests, special rates, third party billing payors and WIP write-off requests on behalf of the Team Leader and delegate where appropriate

Requirements

The successful candidate should possess strong commercial acumen and the ability to build positive working relationships with senior stakeholders. You should also be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills - oral and written - and the ability to confidently communicate with senior stakeholders.
  • A high standard of professionalism, confidentiality and the ability to stay calm in high pressure situations
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Knowledge of Concur and InTapp Flow - advantageous but not essential
  • CA or CPA qualified (or equivalent)
