The Team

Norton Rose Fulbright Canada is currently looking for a project manager to join our IT & strategic initiatives team. Reporting to the strategic initiatives senior manager, the project manager is responsible for the successful completion of assigned projects through efficient planning and flawless execution. The incumbent will require strong abilities in work plan development and progress oversight.

Please note there is one position available but may be filled in any of our Canadian offices.


  • Plan, manage and control the project scope, timeline, cost and quality to deliver the expected end result of a project.
  • Ensure project scope, objectives and requirements are clearly defined.
  • Identify resources needed and work with functional department leader to engage the resources required.
  • Orchestrate work with key stakeholders, project team members and vendors to deliver optimal solution and assure smooth integration of projects into the operations.
  • Create project timelines for all project components and manage critical path.
  • Build overall project cost structure and control project finances.
  • Set up project governance and communication plan providing timely and concise information to team members, stakeholders, sponsors and executive committees.
  • Coordinate project activities to ensure team actions remain in synergy.
  • Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Motivate, supervise and support project team members to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Identify dependencies, issues, risks and proactively manage them to resolution and/or mitigation.
  • Effectively report project performance to the project team and executive committees.
  • Document and report deviations to the plan (scope, timeline and budget) and formalize change request when required.
  • Apply industry project management practices while complying with internal standards and governance.
  • Conduct project post mortems and create recommendations report for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
  • Contribute to ongoing evolution of NRFC project standards and methodology.

Experience & Education

  • University / college degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • 10+ years of project management experience.
  • 10+ years of information technology projects involving (infrastructure, network, application, architecture, service desk.
  • At least one project management professional certification training (PMI, PRINCE II).

Skills & Competencies

  • Previous success in delivering projects including technology solutions.
  • Proven success working and communicating with all levels of management.
  • Superior organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Solid attention to deadlines and budgetary guidelines.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in personnel management and leadership.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently and flexible during times of change.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments.
  • Ability to defuse tension among project team, should it arise.
  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Expertise in project requirement for areas such as finance, human resources, marketing, or any aspects of a law firm.
  • Experience working within the legal industry an asset.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal). Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
  • Exposure to SAP is a definite benefit to the success of this role.
  • High level of competency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Microsoft Project and Visio.
