Global Software Asset Management Senior Analyst (SAM)

The Global Software Asset (SAM) Senior Analyst is a new role that will oversee all activities that optimize the value, cost and risk of software asset lifecycle while aligning to business requirements. The role holder will establish and own the firm's global SAM strategy, using ServiceNow (SAM functionality), as the toolset of choice. The Global SAM Senior Analyst will be accountable for managing and monitoring software compliance and sharing risk mitigation strategies at both an executive and operational level. The role will monitor software agreements and renewal requirements to ensure the firm remains conformant and continually drives efficiencies.


The role's primary reporting line is to the Head of IT service management.

The Role

The Software Asset Senior Analyst (SAM) will:

  • Be accountable for designing, implementing and owning the firms SAM policy and standards
  • Monitor and optimise the firms licensing position, driving down costs and ensuring risk mitigation to avoid non-compliance
  • Establish automated license re-harvesting and optimisation process through analysis of real usage
  • Define a roadmap to anticipate renewals and savings opportunities
  • Identify savings opportunities, set targets and monitor results
  • Develop an audit schedule to ensure license positions are monitored for compliance
  • Verify software deployments by combination of discussions with the service owners and leveraging ServiceNow (SAM module) to identifying under-deployments for potential cost savings and over-deployments that may require the acquisition of additional rights
  • Work with the Global/Regional Vendor Management department accompanying negotiations and contractual design meetings with software vendors
  • Provide regular view of vendor audit risk profiling, including periodic review to identify which vendors are likely to audit, including managing any external license audit processes inclusive of commercial responses
  • Develop and enhance methodologies, policies and practices for software asset life cycle management in line with best practice and practical experience
  • Review annual software maintenance budgets and software-related detail in business cases and project budgets, to ensure that they comply with corporate policies, applicable standards and legislation
  • Provide visibility on costs evolution and forecast future needs
  • Design and manage software asset life cycle management status reporting, metrics and benchmarks
  • Work with the Configuration Management Team to centralise and integrate software and hardware assets and licences with the firms Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
  • Maintain a catalogue of product to streamline the purchase process
  • Lead internal governance to oversee the activity
  • Manage Vendor Licensing Portal

Skills, Experience and knowledge required:

  • Experience in management positions in the area of software asset management
  • ServiceNow Software Asset Senior Analyst certified or equivalent
  • Hands on experience and knowledge implementing ServiceNow (SAM functionality) across a global organisation (essential)
  • Strong Effective Licencing Position (ELP) knowledge on the common software products (e.g., Microsoft, SAP, Adobe,…)
  • Strong knowledge in budget and cost management
  • Understanding of Cloud service based consumption models (e.g. Microsoft 365, Azure,…)
  • Experience in contract negotiation and management
  • Professional certification related to Software Asset Management (e.g., IAITAM, CSAM or equivalent, Microsoft MCP), plus ITIL V3 (desirable)
  • Familiarity with SAM standards or frameworks such as ISO
  • Whilst professional services (legal) experience is not essential, demonstrating exposure to partnership-type organisations and/or service provision to clients is desirable
  • Demonstrate leadership, negotiation, communication and influencing skills
  • Experience working with complex data sets that requires strong attention to detail.
  • Expert level organizational, written and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making abilities
  • Working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated (personal initiative)
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
