Description

Australia, Africa and the Middle East.
We currently have an opening for a Senior Risk &
Compliance Officer position based in our
Hong Kong or Singapore or Australia office.
The Team
The Norton Rose Fulbright LLP Risk & Compliance Team is run by a
Partner who is based in London and who is at present assisted by a
team in five locations: London, Newcastle, the Middle East, Singapore
and Hong Kong. The Hong Kong, Singapore and Middle East risk and
compliance teams are led by a senior lawyer based in Singapore (Head
of Risk & Compliance, Asia & Middle East). The LLP Risk &
Compliance Team comprises of lawyers and Compliance Officer staff, all
of whom have training in anti-money laundering and compliance/risk management.
NRFLLP isrequired to comply with all relevant laws and professional
obligations in every office. Failure to comply can be a breach of
professional standards rules or a criminal, or in some cases civil,
offence. The Risk & Compliance Team is responsible for overseeing
compliance with those rules in order to avoid penalties and damage to
our reputation.
The Role
The role will be based in either Hong
Kong, Singapore or Australia and report to the Senior Regional Risk
& Compliance Manager based in Hong Kong and support the Head of
Risk & Compliance, Asia & Middle East (based in Singapore).
The Firm's business acceptance work covers two primary areas: client
due diligence and conflicts management. The role will involve work
across both of these areas as well as dealing with other ad hoc
compliance queries and projects, including:
Conflicts and Confidentiality Management
- Managing higher risk conflict queries: undertaking conflict
searches, analysing reports, recommending courses of action to
senior management and pushing issues to resolution
- Providing training support and on-going assistance to Officers in
resolving conflict issues
- Acting as a point of escalation between Risk & Compliance
Officers and Lawyers; providing recommendations and first draft
advice on key risk issues
- Managing security and information barriers
- Ensuring that fee earners are kept up to date on the resolution of
their conflict issues.
- Communicating policy updates; training; and key business updates
to Risk & Compliance Officers.
- Advising partners, lawyers and staff on the Firm's policies and procedures
Anti-Money Laundering / Sanctions / Risk Analysis
- Ensuring that the regulations (such as AML Directives) are adhered
to within the Firm
- Carrying out research on companies, assessing strategic fit,
reputational risk, sanctions exposure on potential clients and matters
- Provide critical analysis of Risk assessments on clients and
matters (including on matters in high risk jurisdictions).
- Recommendations to the Head of Compliance and senior management as
to whether a high risk client or matter should be accepted by the Firm
- Assisting Compliance Officers with accurate systems knowledge and
technique to navigate and use the firm's global conflicts database.
- Providing training and on-going assistance to Officers in
resolving complex conflict issues
Other tasks
- Explaining to fee earners and PAs how to comply with the various
regulatory requirements and Firm policies
- Guiding and training fee earners and PAs on the use of compliance systems
- Supporting the Senior Regional Risk & Compliance Manager and
Head of Risk & Compliance, Asia & the Middle East with
various other compliance related tasks as required
- Providing support to other LLP offices on compliance related matters
- Monitoring regulatory requirements of the legal profession in the
UK, Europe, the US and Asia
- Assisting with projects and other initiatives to deliver the EMEA
Risk & Compliance Team's strategy
Skills and Experience Required
- Ability to successfully interact with senior management and partners
- Advanced computer skills and technological awareness
- Excellent workload and project management and great organisational skills
- Team player, and ability to work well with all levels of staff
- Excellent aptitude for research and familiarity with online
research tools
- Ability to draft clearly and explain complex issues; excellent
written and oral communication skills
- Accuracy and an eye for detail
- Sound commercial and risk judgment
- Flexibility and ability to think of 'outside of the box' solutions
- At least 3 years' experience working in a compliance / legal function.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed to serve the
requirements of the global firm
- Law degree or other relevant qualifications (desirable)
