Role
The Global Practice Group (GPG) Business Development
Head is a senior member of the Verein Marketing and Business
Development (MBD) team at Norton Rose Fulbright.
The GPG Business Development Head is responsible for
supporting the Global Practice Leaders of the firm's Corporate,
M&A and Securities and Tax GPGs with the achievement of GPG
business development objectives.
The GPG Business Development Head effectively acts as
an account Head for the Corporate, M&A and Securities and Tax
GPG's marketing and business development activities, collating their
requirements, briefing in the relevant Verein MBD subject matter
experts and ensuring that these experts deliver against the stated
requirements.
Support
The GPG Business Development Head will be supported by
the MBD Verein team and the GSC.
Reporting Lines
The GPG Business Development Head reports to the GPG
Leaders for Corporate, M&A and Securities and Tax and the Global
Director of Marketing and Communications. The GPG Business
Development Head works in close cooperation with the Global Director
of Clients, other members of the Verein MBD team, the regional MBD
practice heads/Heads and the regional MBD teams.
Role components
Strategy
-
Strategic direction: Work with the GPG Leaders to
determine the strategic direction of the GPGs, focusing on client
development initiatives.
Business planning and reporting
-
Annual business plans: Assist the GPG Leaders in the
development, implementation and tracking of annual business plans
and budgets for the GPG.

Financial information: Work with the Verein business
information team to ensure that the GPG Leaders have ready access
to accurate financial performance and client data.

Reporting: Put together working drafts of GPG
performance reports to Excom and the Global Executive Team for
review by GPG Leaders.
Internal communications and meetings
-
Communications: Assist the GPG Leaders with GPG-wide
internal communications, working with the Verein MBD internal
communications team.

Athena: Manage the GPG Athena pages, ensuring that
all GPG information is up-to-date and relevant, working with the
Verein MBD internal communications team.

Meetings and events: Support the GPG Leaders with the
organization of GPG meetings and events.
External communications and events
-
Brand messaging: Direct the Verein MBD communications
team to ensure all communications channels convey consistent GPG
brand messaging and capability presentation (including but not
limited to website, marketing collateral, bids, experience
statements, directories, league tables, CVs).

Marketing collateral: Assist with the development of
high quality materials for use in marketing collateral to convey
GPG positioning, experience and sales messages to clients, working
with the Verein MBD Communications team. Ensure, for consistent
messaging and capability presentation, that this content is
replicated in appropriate systems and all communications channels.

Website and other digital platforms: Manage the GPG
website pages, including GPG partner profiles, ensuring that all
GPG information is up-to-date and relevant, working with the
Verein MBD website team.

PR: Direct the Verein MBD communications team to
develop the media profile of the GPGs through media outreach and campaigns.

Directories and league tables: Manage the process for
GPG submissions to global directories and league tables, working
with Verein MBD content management expert and regional GPG MBD
Heads.
Client Development
-
Engagement in client development programs: Working in
conjunction with Verein and regional MBD Client teams, support the
engagement of the GPGs in the firm's Enterprise and Dynamic client programs.

Client feedback program: Facilitate GPG participation
in the firm's client feedback program, including tracking and
acting on actions arising from interviews, and assessing how
feedback should be used.

Client products: Maintain awareness of relevant
global and local marketing products which can be used for GPG
client engagement.

Client development initiatives: Assist with the
implementation of GPG client development initiatives and campaigns
as appropriate.

Client data: Ensure that the GPG client lists on
InterAction are kept up-to-date, working with the relevant
regional InterAction teams and the GSC.
Bids and panel appointments
-
Strategic bids: Project manage GPG strategic bids,
working with the relevant bids team, including advising on the bid
approach, team formations, reviewing and editing content and
ensuring adherence to pricing procedures.

Post-bid procedures: Ensure post-bid follow-up
processes are adhered to.

Panel appointments: Assist the GPG Leader in the
analysis of panel-related opportunities and help drive the
realization of these opportunities.

Bids and Panels analysis: Manage the collation of bid
and panel win/lose rates and make recommendations as to how to
improve performance.

Experience management: Ensure that major GPG matters
are included in the firm's experience management system.
Best practice

Visual identity: Ensure that GPG marketing collateral
adheres to the firm's visual identity.

Firm systems: Encourage adherence to best practice
procedures and utilization of firm systems including InterAction
and Experience Management.

GSC: Effectively utilize and promote use of GSC
resources as appropriate.
Skills and Experience Required
-
Graduate calibre, preferably with demonstrable and/or
professionally recognised marketing or communications
qualification.

Minimum 10 year experience working in a legal and/or
professional services environment.

Excellent project management skills.

Strong written, editorial and oral communication skills.
-
Excellent attention to detail.
-
Confident, persuasive and assertive - u
nderstands when to act and when to ask for further clarification.

Experience of client liaison - ability to be client facing.

Understands the need and has the ability to manage expectations.

Sound working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
