The Team

The Norton Rose Fulbright Global Dispute Resolution Group is one of the first choice practices for the complex, high-value international work of global corporations and financial institutions. We have particular expertise in transport (which includes our market-leading shipping and aviation practices), financial services, insurance, energy and infrastructure, and construction.

Our shipping team deals with multi-national clients from across the globe; ship owners, commodity companies, energy majors, cruise lines, insurers, banks and financiers, lighthouse authorities and classification societies. We deal with day to day carriage of goods disputes through to multi-million pound disputes in London arbitration and at the English court for clients from Brazil, the US, China and Australia. We provide regulatory advice to our clients both external and internal to the firm including sanctions, ESG, environmental pollution and decarbonisation. We closely support our banking teams with enforcement and regulatory advice and the team also conducts transactional work in the area of ship building, shipping services agreements, long term charters, contracts of affreightment, ship recycling and other commercial shipping agreements such as in relation to construction of offshore windfarms. We work closely with our colleagues across our global network with shipping lawyers in for instance, Vancouver, Houston, NYC, Japan and Singapore.

The Role

You will be a member of the Global Dispute Resolution and Litigation group based in London. The role will involve working closely with experienced partners to help develop further the successful and expanding shipping practice at Norton Rose Fulbright. The role will require advising clients on a broad range of disputes regulatory and transactional and work with particular focus on issues arising out of energy shipping, cruise and carriage of goods.

You will work with highly regarded industry-leading specialists advising multinational clients across a range of sectors. You will advise clients on issues arising from all types of maritime work, such as obtaining anti-suit injunctions, advising clients delayed, arrested, or damaged cargo, dealing with disputes over payments of LDs under ship building contracts, drafting contracts of affreightment and advising on the effects of decarbonisation on shipping fleets. You will also work with other members of the Norton Rose Fulbright Group, including providing comprehensive expertise on arrest, enforcement and restructuring to our Banking and Corporate teams.
