The Role:
- As the strategy of the business is to be aggressively proactive,
the role of the Global Head of Business Development for Energy will
require the rapid development of (a) a comprehensive understanding
of the global Energy industries; and (b) a strong knowledge of the
firm's global Energy business.
- In conjunction with the Global and Regional sector leaders,
establish and execute the annual strategy for the sector and any
associated International Business Groups (IBGs), including marketing
campaigns, and promote this strategy across the business and externally.
- In conjunction with the Global and Regional sector leaders,
develop the Energy Transition Global Strategic Initiative (GSI). The
Energy Transition GSI is one of five, strategic investment
initiatives, which constitute a key component of our four year
global strategic plan?
- Monitor and report on the development of sector clients through
increased revenue and improved regional penetration.
- Coordinate and promote the Enterprise Global Client program as it
relates to the sector.
- In conjunction with the Global and Regional sector leaders,
develop a communication function for the effective transfer of
sector information and competitive intelligence among lawyers in the
sector worldwide. This presupposes a level of technological competence.
- The development of a competitive intelligence gathering function
to identify and disseminate Energy opportunities for the network
from around the world.
- In conjunction with the Global and Regional sector leaders, direct
and manage the expenditure of the annual Global sector budget,
ensuring that the budget is allocated fairly to the benefit of all regions.
- Demonstrate a strong focus on Diversity & Inclusion activities
within the sector and the sector team.
- Facilitate the engagement of other interested partners, associates
and business services in the global sector core and wider groups.
- Ensure that the sector is properly connected into the overall
marketing and business development process.
- Manage and coordinate strategic global bids falling in the sector
and assist and advise the wider global Energy business development
and central bid teams with any Energy-related bids that they are leading.
- Provide direction and support to the Regional Business Development
Mangers in all their Energy-related activities.
- Take full responsibility for appraisal, performance, learning and
development, absence and recruitment processes for the Energy
business development team.
- Collaborate with other sector and practice area business
development teams to ensure a coordinated and efficient approach to
client and business development.
- Coordinate and edit the submission of a written report to the
Global Executive Committee on developments in the sector.
- Execute a global digital strategy for the sector in line with the
firm's global digital strategy.
- Drive sector Public Relations for the sector with respect to press
releases, articles, directories and league tables, in co-operation
with the central PR team.
Structure:
The position reports directly into the
Global Co-Heads of Energy based in the US and EMEA and the Global
CMO. The role also carries an informal reporting line to each of the
regional heads of Energy. The Global Head of Business Development
for Energy will be expected to coordinate closely with the Global
Head of Business Development for Infrastructure and Resources.
The position has overall responsibility
for the coordination of a team of Energy Business Development
Manager and Executives across the network and a team of 2 direct reports.
Skills and Experience:
- Extensive experience in a legal or other professional services environment.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of business development strategy
in a global professional services organisation, .
- Experience of delivering cross-border business development and
marketing campaigns using the full marketing mix, working with
international business development staff.
- Good knowledge of the energy sector and specific energy transition
experience would be preferred but not essential.
- Proactive business development professional who can lead activity
rather than simply taking ideas and delivering them to best practice.
- Drives change initiatives across the sector.
- Managerial skills (management of small teams).
- Makes links and connections with the wider business, outside area
of specialisation.
- Strong writing and editorial skills.
- Excellent project management skills, demonstrates experience
managing projects within a virtual team environment and managing expectations.
- Confident, persuasive and assertive.
- Builds trust amongst the partnership.
- Ability to be client facing.
- Relevant degree and/or professionally recognised marketing or
communications qualification.
