Job Title IP (Patents) Disputes Associate
Closing Date 03-May-2024
Department IP Disputes
Job Location London
Role Lawyers
Description

We have an exciting new opportunity for an Associate to join our IP Disputes team in London to focus on our Patent Disputes practice, particularly within the Life Sciences and Technology sectors. The role has arisen following a number of high profile partner arrivals in recent years and the team being involved in some of the leading patent cases in the UK Courts.

The practice

Our IP Disputes team is known for acting in high profile, high value IP litigation with an international element, as well as handling portfolio management matters for internationally recognised brands. We are currently acting in litigation in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and General Court (CJEU) on a range of matters encompassing patents, designs, copyright, passing off, and trade mark infringement.

We act for leading companies in the life sciences, digital business, transport & automotive, retail & consumer and energy sectors. Our sector-focussed approach ensures that we have valuable expertise in the areas in which our clients operate and deep understanding of the issues that they face.

The role will mainly be working with and supporting Will James, a Partner who joined Osborne Clarke in April 2019 and who specialises in complex technical life sciences and technology patent disputes. Will is recognised in the key legal and IP directories.

The London IP Disputes team is currently made up of 6 Partners, 2 Associate Director, 3 Senior Associates, 7 Associates, 2 Trainee Solicitors, 4 Paralegals and 1 Formalities Assistant.

Technical skills and experience

Knowledge and experience of Patent Disputes gained at a firm with a strong reputation in this area is essential and we would be seeking evidence of studies/qualifications within biochemistry, biology, chemistry, immunology or similar. Due to the nature of the work and the structure of the team, we are looking to hire an Associate in this area, although we would consider candidates with more or less experience.

Your career development

Like all our lawyers, you will benefit from our multi-award winning career development programme. At each stage of your career this provides you with:

  • clear expectations of your role and what it takes to progress;
  • high quality clients and work, with early responsibility and client exposure;
  • thorough assessment and individual feedback from a range of experienced colleagues;
  • robust technical training with early skills based development, increasingly tailored to you; and
  • reward for your contribution, progression and potential, rather than PQE or tenure.

Salary and benefits

We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
