The team
The Construction Insurance team is part of the firm's Insurance Group
and has a well-established client base, acting for the vast majority
of Professional Indemnity insurers in the market as well as many of
the UK's largest contractors and construction consultancies, both on
joint and direct instructions.
The team handles a wide variety of claims against various
construction related professionals including engineers, architects,
quantity surveyors, project managers, design and build contractors and
surveyors. The role largely involves defending liability claims both
pre and post litigation, but the team also provide advice /
representation on associated matters such as adjudication,
disciplinary proceedings, arbitration and risk management. The team is
also frequently asked to advise insurers on policy coverage aspect of claims.
The team spans London and Bristol and is top ranked for Professional
Negligence in both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.
The role
We have an opportunity for a Senior Associate to join the
Construction Insurance team in London. The successful candidate will
have the opportunity to work with a number of partners and lawyers
within a vibrant and growing team. The work will be varied,
interesting and challenging and you will be given autonomy. There will
be the opportunity to work on matters involving a range of
construction related professions with values ranging from tens of
thousands of pounds to multi millions. You will also have the
opportunity to get involved with business development and client
initiatives, as well as:
Managing a caseload of construction professional indemnity claims,
including coverage issues
Delivering a high quality and timely output to clients, ensuring
the highest levels of client service and alignment with agreed
working practices and client service level agreements
Contributing to the development and improvement of the team's
service, support, processes, and procedures
Working to develop an environment of constant improvement:
enthusiastically sharing with and helping others and taking
responsibility for aspects of team development, such as intranet
pages, training and induction, process improvements etc.
Capture and collate required Management Information in accordance
with agreed practice for clients
Arranging and attending client events, when required.
Knowledge, skills and experience
5 years of PQE or equivalent relevant expertise.
Expertise in construction litigation. Experience of insurance is
desirable but not essential.
A good knowledge of legal procedures
Able to deliver legal and commercial solutions, working
collaboratively with clients and colleagues to provide an
outstanding client experience.
Takes responsibility for managing and developing accomplished
relationships with clients based on an understanding of their
business objectives.
Committed to business development to further grow the practice.
Identifying and shaping commercial opportunities encouraging others
to participate.
Works efficiently and commercially and understands the importance
of financial hygiene. Shares their understanding with the team.
Adopts a commercial mindset when pricing, resourcing and using
technology to manage matters and understands the impact of this on profitability.
A collaborative leader within a team who coaches and develops
junior team members to achieve their full potential.
