ROLE OVERVIEW

The team:

With over 60 years' experience at the heart of the insurance industry, handling coverage, claims, defence and product development work, we are specialists across all classes of business. We are the insurance firm of choice for many of our largest insurers and reinsurers in the Hong Kong and Singapore markets and across the Asia-Pacific region.

We have 30 dedicated lawyers and case-handlers across our Asia offices. The team work together as an integrated Asia insurance practice and adopt a joined up and coordinated approach to ensure our clients obtain the best quality service across the entire region.

Our insurance team in Asia covers most of the markets' specialist lines: marine, property & casualty, onshore and offshore energy, construction and engineering, political risk, terrorism, trade credit, professional indemnity, and financial lines. We have a full market ran insurance and reinsurance capability.

The role

As a result of the expansion plans, we currently have an opportunity for experienced Associates (ideally 1 to 4 pqe but we will be flexible for the right candidate) to join our team in Singapore at an exciting time of growth for our practice in Asia.

The ideal candidate will have good quality commercial litigation and / or Insurance experience gained at an International Law Firm. We are actively interested in candidates who already have experience of practising in Singapore. But we are also interested in candidates who are currently practising overseas in other markets (with a strong preference for the UK or Australia) who want to relocate to the vibrant market of Singapore.

Experience of professional indemnity, financial lines and special risks claims / coverage advice would be an advantage, but is not essential. What is more important is a growth mindset, a motivation towards learning and adapting to new and exciting areas of work.

There may also be the opportunity to work on and support international trade credit, marine insurance, commodities insurance and offshore energy lines of business.

We can offer high class work spanning the entire range of complex insurance business, including Financial Institutions (FI) and D&O, Property and Energy, International Casualty and Reinsurance risks:

• Advising leading international insurers on policy coverage across various lines of insurance business, with a particular focus on professional indemnity, financial institutions and D&O matters - including speciality risks (cyber, fidelity, W&I).
• Insurance policy coverage disputes and Arbitration work.
• Reinsurance - advice covering the following areas: policy drafting, policy disputes, regulatory issues, disputes on both inwards and outwards reinsurance, facultative, quota share and treaty reinsurances and resolution of disputes.
• Advising leading market insurers on matters of policy drafting and regulatory issues.

Knowledge, skills and experience

• 1 - 4 years' PQE (up to 4 PQE approx. but we can be flexible about experience for the right candidate).
• Sound intellect with proven ability to work creatively under pressure.
• Demonstrable experience of high-quality commercial litigation.
• Experience in insurance and professional defence work (professional indemnity, financial lines and special risk claims) is highly desired but not essential.
• Energetic about client contact and strong desire to play a full role in business development.
• Ability to build and develop rapport with clients, good client relationship skills.
• Strong organisational/project management skills.
