Role overview

The team

The finance department is responsible for managing the firm's financial health. We have a presence in all offices and our teams cover the following areas:

  • Cashiering: Handling incoming and outcoming payments including client funds and vendor invoices.
  • Billing: Preparing and issuing invoices. Working with matter teams to help them manage their WIP.
  • Credit control: Working to ensure timely and accurate receipt of payments from clients.
  • Payroll: Processing employee payroll including calculating wages, deductions and taxes. Processing employee expense claims.
  • Management Information: Providing financial reports and analysis to the firm's management team. Preparation and audit of statutory accounts.

Each team is headed by a manager or senior manager and ultimately reports into the Head of Finance and CFO.

The role

Managing a team of 10 credit controllers across our Bristol & London offices and acting as a key point of escalation for our credit control team in Asia.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with firm credit control processes and procedures, including implementation of new processes and systems.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external client contacts and third parties to facilitate prompt payment of our invoices and helping credit controllers build their own client relationships.
  • Monitor team and individual workloads and performance to ensure consistent high standards of service are delivered across the firm.
  • Training new and existing credit controllers to ensure consistency of standards and adherence to best practice.
  • Proving training on credit control processes, including best practices in the insurance markets, to fee earners and other colleagues outside of the credit control team.
  • Generating and distributing aged accounts receivable reports to key stakeholders.
  • Managing recovery actions or other escalation processes where needed.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Demonstrates a growth mindset and is committed to lifelong learning to build knowledge and expertise.
  • 10 years in legal credit control focused on Insurance sector, including use of ECF and similar portals.
  • Experience using Aderant or similar practice management system advantageous.
  • Develops internal and external client relationships and adopts a client-centric approach to deliver strong results and innovative solutions.
  • Manages and influences client relationships and experiences.
  • Manages people, resources, budgets and projects efficiently and commercially.
  • Utilises data to deliver commercial solutions.
  • A collaborative and influential leader within a team who coaches and develops junior team members to achieve their full potential.
