The role

This role represents an opportunity to be part of the Simmons & Simmons Dispute Resolution team of three M&BD team members. The practice has grown significantly in recent years and has achieved success in both new and established disciplines, achieving impressive results for both local and international clients.

Operating as an integral part of the M&BD, Professional Support Lawyer (PSL) and wider Practice Group (PG) business services team dedicated to DR, the successful candidate will have a strong voice in the future planning of the practice group. This role demands both strategic thinking and hands-on delivery - the ability to juggle both is key

This is the perfect opportunity for a skilled and experienced M&BD specialist who wants to develop by being immersed in the practice and active as a valued part of a strong and genuinely international firm. Only solutions-orientated team-players need apply.

What will you do:
Marketing & BD planning: Work with, challenge and support the DR lawyers to develop and execute forward-looking plans for their groups and specialisms (global and local), which align to the wider departmental, client programme and firmwide business plans. Maintain good oversight of all M&BD activity to ensure alignment with the plan.
Brand & profile: As part of the M&BD planning process, help to deliver priority projects that boost the profile of the practice, and firm more broadly. This includes working with our central Marketing & Communications team. The M&BD Senior Executive would be expected to proactively support thought leadership campaigns/products. Further core elements of the role will be to support the annual directories and awards submission efforts, and to promote and maintain M&BD infrastructure including encouraging all DR lawyers to engage in the Alchemy [matter capture] credentials process.
New business: The M&BD team plays a critical role in the pursuit of new business for DR - developing new client material, preparing pitches and presentations, and helping capture feedback on performance and identifying lessons to be learned.
Be a key part of the information flow: This individual will have a critical role to play in ensuring that there is an effective flow of information between the DR sub-groups, and the wider international practice groups and network, and vice versa. Developing and imparting knowledge of DR specific capabilities and our wider international priorities is essential (includes engagement with the firm's sector strategy, the client programme and the M&BD strategic priorities e.g. Big Rocks). Central to this is the need for the M&BD Senior Executive to network (online initially) and be constantly curious and passionate about what's going on across the offices, firm and function.
Client development: Aligning M&BD activities to client relationships, working alongside DR lawyers and the Client Programme Team to help identify and pursue opportunities for the firm's Strategic and Priority clients. Involvement in client listening initiatives is likely to be a part of the role.
Budget management: Monitor budget for activities to help deliver on the M&BD plan and monitor spend against this. Challenge unplanned spend, escalating where appropriate, and ensuring there is a proper business case for spend not originally included in the budget allocation.
Reporting: Supporting the process of reporting centrally on local activity, key trends and opportunities.
Briefing work into the M&BD Hub and the Marketing & Communications team: Provide clear briefs for work to be undertaken, and review output for accuracy and quality before sharing with lawyers.

What we are looking for:

• Minimum of 3 years' marketing / business development experience.
• A strong understanding of the professional services market desired.
• Some experience of working with people of different cultures to achieve common goals.

Knowledge and technical skills:
• Well-developed understanding of marketing and business development strategy and implementation.
• Strong project management skills.
• Willing and able to challenge lawyers.
• Strong experience in the end to end management of the pitch process.
• Able to develop professional relationships and build business through diverse networks.

General skills:
• Possesses an infectious passion and drive for work (in this case, promoting our DR offering).
• Thinks commercially about changes within the firm and client environment and how that provides opportunities or impacts on client relationships.
• Acts to maximise the profitability of the business.
• Highly consultative approach and is solution oriented.
• Can work with minimal supervision, and is able to identify when to ask for assistance.
• Able to work collaboratively with others to provide a high-quality service to the firm.

This is a permanent role to be based in the Bristol or London office.
