We are seeking a qualified Business Development Manager to join our
Global Business Development team, providing BD support to the Business Group.
The Business Development Manager supports the Business Group
practices, working with the Practice Group Leaders and the members of
these practices to define and execute business growth objectives,
identify target opportunities, develop and coordinate business
development plans, and work with related teams to grow the firm's
business base.
The Business Development Manager serves as a catalyst and facilitator
for client expansion and targeted initiatives and utilizes creativity,
tenacity and leadership to help the leadership and members of the
Practice Groups define, implement and measure sound business
development and marketing strategies that will be the foundation for
profitable growth.
The responsibilities of the role are varied and will include, but are
not limited to:
Working with Practice Group Leaders to support and develop the
practice group business plans
Working with individual lawyers to help them develop and deliver
their personal business development plans
Identifying market developments that may have impact on clients'
businesses and providing advice on effective marketing strategies
Providing primary support in preparing responses to domestic and
cross-border requests for information (RFIs), requests for proposals
(RFPs), and other pitches, proposals, capability statements and
client-facing materials for new or expanded business
Developing in-depth knowledge of the Practice Groups, including
attorney expertise, firm experience, industry/trade group
organizations, trends and clients
Preparing and managing the BD budget for the practice groups
Working with others members of the BD&M department to ensure
that the members of the practice groups maximize the strategic use
of the full range of print, electronic and social media tools and techniques
Preparing the practice groups' regular work communication tools -
including details of new instructions, pitches and proposals,
meetings, events and PR/Media activity as appropriate
Directing, maintaining and managing the regular updating of the
practice groups' marketing materials, representative matter lists,
and other related materials
Leading the efforts of the practice groups to secure higher
rankings in select directories, awards and distinctions
Managing and tracking pitch and proposal activity for the practice
groups, including updating the pitch log for all pitch/proposal activity
Working with the PR/Communications team to support media relations
efforts associated with the practice groups, by identifying topical
issues and reporter outreach and assist in accessing lawyers across
the firm who may be in a position to provide commentary
Managing and maintaining the practice groups' client contact
lists, and working with the Design and Digital team to manage this
information within the firm's database
Requirements:
Four-year college degree. Graduate/JD degree a plus.
Minimum of eight years business development, marketing, sales or
related experience - preferably international experience in a
professional services environment.
Proven project management track record.
Experience establishing client development/sales plans and
supporting sales function.
