Description

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Specialist to join its Public Policy practice in the Washington, DC office.

Responsibilities

  • Researching and monitoring legislative and regulatory developments on a variety of issues of interest to our clients.
  • Covering congressional and other hearings and providing timely summaries of same.
  • Conducting research on a range of issues of interests to our clients.
  • Helping prepare written materials in advance of client meetings.
  • Providing updates on legislative and regulatory actions.
  • Helping implement action plans for client outreach to Congress and agency officials.
  • Interacting with staff in Congressional and federal agency offices on behalf of our clients.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Prior experience (at least one year) working on staff in Congress, an Executive Branch agency, or comparable state-level entities, with a track record of increasing responsibility over time.
  • 1 - 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrable level of policy experience in one or more of the following policy areas: education; energy/environment/natural resources; financial services; foreign relations; healthcare; local governments; tax; trade; or transportation and infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, including the ability to creatively apply research to policy issues and communicate solutions.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills, including strong relationship-building skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively on nuanced policy issues.
  • Outstanding written communication skills, including the ability to produce written products that explain complex concepts in a succinct and direct manner.
  • Strong understanding of the policy making process and a working knowledge of relevant federal and legislative databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, multi-task, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work both in a team and independently.
  • Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in a related field.
