Bird & Bird's rapidly growing Competition and Trade team in Brussels is looking to recruit an associate with up to 6 years' experience.

About the team

Bird & Bird's Competition & EU Law Group counts more than 50 specialist competition lawyers across our 31 offices.

Our Brussels Competition practice acts as the hub of that group and deals with high-profile matters in all fields of EU and national competition law, including cartels, abusive conduct, merger control and State aid. We also have vast experience in EU litigation and are currently handling several high-profile assignments before the European Commission, the European courts and various national authorities. The team also handles various trade matters, representing companies and associations in anti-dumping and anti-subsidy proceedings before the European Commission and the EU courts.

Our Competition practice is closely integrated with our Public Affairs practice, which allows us to provide clients with all-round support in complex matters.

In line with the firm's focus on industries shaped by technology and digital markets, our team has significant expertise in sectors including technology, communications, IT, aviation, automotive, electronics , energy and many others.

What you'll do

  • You will handle competition and trade cases across a broad range of sectors of industry;
  • You will work for international clients and will be involved in challenging work from day one;
  • You will be given responsibility and have direct client contact, where appropriate;

Your skills

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • A background in competition law; an LL.M. in EU (competition) law is an advantage;
  • Obtained excellent results during your studies;
  • An excellent command of English and fluent French, both orally and in writing is essential;
  • A good command of Dutch and/or German is an advantage;
  • Up to 6 years' experience in competition or trade law;
  • The ability to provide clear, precise and practical advice that helps clients in their day-to-day business;
  • A commitment to continuously update your technical expertise;
  • A strong appetite for business development activities;
  • An interest in working in a team environment with an open, informal and entrepreneurial culture; and
  • A desire to work hand-in-hand with colleagues around the globe.
