The Role
This role sits within Travers Smith's Communications and PR team,
which is part of the firm's Business Development & Marketing
Department. Reporting to the Head of Communications, the
Communications and PR Manager will spend 50% of their time managing,
supporting and delivering the firm's wider internal communications
activities and building and promoting the firm's brand and reputation
in the media and with key external audiences. This will include taking
responsibility for the PR activities for one or two practice areas,
with the role encompassing internal communications, PR, digital
communications, and thought leadership.
The other 50% of their time will be spent managing and leading the
communications plan for the firm's upcoming move to Stonecutter court.
This is a big project with the move planned for late 2025 / early 2026
and will involve a coordinated internal and external comms campaign
that will include creating and implementing the internal comms plan,
building and updating the Stonecutter pages on the firm's intranet,
partner and firmwide updates, welcome packs, liaising with clients and
the press, supplier comms and much more!
Key Responsibilities
PR
Support the Head of Communications on the development of the
firm's PR strategy and positioning in the market.
Develop and implement PR plans for a select number of practice
areas covering media relations, thought leadership, awards, industry
body relationships and social media.
Build and maintain good relationships with target trade, national
and legal press, and proactively generate positive media coverage
that supports the firm's key messages.
Draft and distribute press releases and act as a primary point of
contact for media requests.
Manage the firm's press mailing lists and coverage and undertake
analysis and evaluation of campaigns and channels.
Guide and coach partners and lawyers on media communication best practice.
Stonecutter:
Developing and implementing a full internal and external comms
plan for the upcoming move.
Creating the Stonecutter pages on the firm's intranet, the Hub,
and then being responsible for content creating including videos and
photo updates.
Working closely with the training teams (tech and L&D),
supporting them in what they need in terms of comms in the run up to
the move.
Work with the AV team to pull together engaging visual and audio
content .
Inputting into town halls with regular Stonecutter updates.
Preparing welcome packs for the move day.
Familiarisation documentation and tours.
Organising internal welcome events.
Leading on comms to partners with the Head of Communications support.
Website messaging.
Client and press comms.
Client welcome events.
Supplier comms.
Neighbour charm offensive.
Cross over with long term digital signage strategy.

Internal and external communications
As part of the Communications and PR team, work on the development
of firm-wide internal and external engagement programmes, aimed at
target audiences and comprising content generation and distribution
through the firm's internal and external communications channels.
Assist the firm's Pro Bono, Graduate Recruitment and CSR and
Diversity & Inclusion teams on the development of their market
profile and execution of their internal and external communications activities.
Support and advise the firm's Business Services teams on their
communications campaigns and activities.
Responsible for managing, populating and maintaining intranet news
stories. Commission and write news articles, publish and upload content.
Support communication and engagement with the alumni community.
Digital communications
Work alongside the Digital Marketing team on building and
enhancing the firm's presence on chosen social media and digital channels.
Support on the content generation for the firm's social media
channels including LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.
Advise legal departments and teams on the best use of social media
platforms to achieve their profile-raising objectives.
Responsible for managing and updating the news on the website.
Awards and legal directories
Support the wider comms team on the firm's legal and industry
awards programme including distribution of guidelines, preparation
of award submissions, as necessary, and issuing communications about
shortlists and award victories.
Advise lawyers and the Business Development team on the legal
directories process and on how best to present and craft directory submissions.
Brand development
Work closely with the Brand team to ensure that effective
processes are put in place for maintaining and developing the firm's brand.
Work with the HR and Graduate Recruitment team to ensure that the
brand is incorporated into all recruitment activities and assist
with plans to promote the firm to the recruitment market.
Work closely with the Pro Bono and CSR and Diversity Directors to
ensure that all communications and activities are delivered
effectively and in support of the firm's brand.
Provide communications support on client and thought leadership
campaigns with particular focus on media relations.
Person Specification
Experience & knowledge
A minimum of 5 years' experience within a similar role ideally
within a professional services environment.
An understanding of the legal environment and experience of
dealing with the legal, trade and business press.
Experience in internal comms.
Experience with digital marketing and social media.
Experience in content marketing / campaigns / hot topics / thought leadership.
Skills
Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
Excellent proof-reading skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage competing
requests from a large number of internal clients.
Proficient user of social media platforms.
Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, and Adobe
creative suite (desirable).
Personal attributes
A strong and empathetic communicator who can build good working
relationships across the firm.
